De tolk van java

As part of a school assignment, we were asked to design a title sequence for an existing book. I chose the Dutch novel De tolk van Java (The Interpreter of Java) by Alfred Birney, which tells the story of a boy uncovering the hidden and painful past of his father, who came from the former Dutch East Indies. The narrative unfolds through a binder filled with loose, scattered pages — fragments of memory and history waiting to be pieced together. This visual served as the foundation for my concept, guiding the use of aged textures, muted colors, and floating motion to evoke the sense of rediscovery and emotional depth. The result is a title sequence that captures the layered storytelling and historical weight of the novel.
